National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation – Education Series

The events leading up the National Aboriginal Achievement Awards (NAAA) are designed to provide students with opportunities to explore a variety of careers and educational opportunities and to learn more about the Foundation and how its programs can be a critical link to realizing career opportunities. Students will be recruited across the province to participate in the high school focused events, younger students will be recruited from the Vancouver area. Each event is designed to inspire students to think about future career opportunities and understand the role the Foundation can play in realizing their goals.

             


Event: Education Series Career Fair - FULL
Date: Wednesday, February 22, 2012
Location: Vancouver Convention Centre, 1055 Canada Place, Vancouver, British Columbia, V6C 0C3
Time: 9:00-3:30
Target Audience: Grade 9-12

In conjunction with the National Aboriginal Achievement Awards, the Foundation is hosting a career fair for Indigenous high school students. The career fair is designed to increase awareness of the diversity of employment opportunities available to Indigenous youth within the Canadian workforce. It is also an opportunity for the students to interact with Indigenous and non-Indigenous role models, through our workshops, exhibitor tradeshow and ceremonies throughout the day. The career fair is a high energy inspirational event that can host up to 800 Indigenous participants.

Event: Youth Day at the University of British Columbia - FULL
Date: Thursday, February 23, 2012
Location: University of British Columbia Campus
Time: 8:30-3:00
Target Audience: Grade 9-12 students

Youth Day at the University of British Columbia provides Indigenous students with the opportunity to visit the university campus. This day gives them the opportunity to become familiar with the campus and support services that are available to them. A day at the University of British Columbia provides students with extra knowledge of what it is like in a university setting and be able to see themselves in that environment.

Event: Tour of the National Aboriginal Achievement Awards - FULL

Date: Friday, February 24, 2012
Location: Queen Elizabeth Theatre
Time: 11:30 – 2:00 pm
Target Audience: Grade 4-5 students from the greater Vancouver area

This event is designed to provide younger Indigenous students with the opportunity to learn about the National Aboriginal Achievement Awards. It provides them the opportunity to meet Awards recipients, members of the show’s production team and learn about various aspects of a nationally broadcast show.
