November 20, 2009 – TORONTO – The National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation (NAAF) is excited to announce that Cameco, one of the world’s largest uranium producers, has donated $50,000 towards the 2010 National Aboriginal Achievement Awards.
“The Foundation would like to welcome Cameco as a new partner in our Awards Gala,” said National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation President & CEO Roberta Jamieson. “I am delighted to commend Cameco as a company that has taken such leadership in supporting the Awards and our Aboriginal communities at large. I would invite many more companies and foundations to find out how they can work with NAAF to help the organization ‘Enrich Canada by Advancing Aboriginal Achievement’ into the next decade and beyond.”
The National Aboriginal Achievement Awards (NAAA) were established to encourage and celebrate excellence in the Aboriginal community. NAAF created the Awards in 1993, in conjunction with the United Nation’s International Decade of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. The Awards recognize the outstanding career achievements of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people in diverse occupations. Now entering its 17th year, these Awards have become a Canadian institution.
“We are very pleased to be part of the 2010 National Aboriginal Achievement Awards,” said Gary Merasty, Cameco’s vice-president of Corporate Social Responsibility. “Cameco fully supports the NAAF’s goal of promoting, supporting and celebrating the achievement of Canada's Aboriginal Peoples.”
Cameco, with its head office in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, is one of the world's largest uranium producers. The company's uranium products are used to generate electricity in nuclear energy plants around the world, providing one of the cleanest sources of energy available today. Cameco's shares trade on the Toronto and New York stock exchanges.
